CSA 2008 – Week One Box

Christie and I decided to join the Myerov Family Farm CSA. Here’s the contents of our first box:

  • 3 baby bok choy
  • large bag of spinach
  • large bag of mizuna
  • 5 green onions (scallions)
  • 4 pickling size cucumbers
  • 2 lbs red new potatoes
  • herb sampler – basil, mint, rosemary, dill and thyme

CSA Box Week One

Here’s what we’ve made with it so far:

  • We used some of the dill, mizuna, cucumbers and green onions in a big salad
  • We used rosemary in a vinaigrette
  • We made parchment potatoes with half of the new red potatoes, rosemary and thyme

Parchment Potatoes in the works:

The potatoes are really red inside, our farmer said we should be getting some purple ones later in the season.

Here’s the whole dinner from tonight, Salmon with Caramelized Leeks, CSA salad and Parchment Potatoes:

  1. very nice! i should seek something like that out here — we have a couple of large farmer’s markets but i have never heard of CSA.

that mizuna is pretty good, eh? lately my leafy green of choice has been arugula.

  2. It’s pretty sweet, I’m definitely looking forward to this Saturday to see what we get. We actually got into it really late in the season. You apparently need to secure your share in January, the only reason we got into this one is because its brand new.

Here’s two sites I found that helped:

    http://farmtophilly.com/
http://www.localharvest.org/csa/ – search for CSA’s across the country

Mizuna is pretty good, it’s a nice change from the standard Romaine lettuce.

  3. Wait a minute! This is the same Christie who leaves comments on my Petunia blog? How funny! I just realized last night that you’re not that far from here, so I went looking for a link and you’re doing Myerov too! I was looking at the pictures thinking, “Hmm, these vegetables look very familiar.” :-)
